Building & Facilities

The Huang Tai Chi Association Tenom is ideal for Tai Chi training. Not only do we have instructors with decades of tai chi experience that were personally trained by Grandmaster Huang, we also have the perfect facilities to conduct workshops and classes. The facilities include a large training hall downstairs, a large undercover outside training area at the rear, a medium sized air-conditioned training area upstairs (that can double as a dormitory), 3 air-condition bedrooms with hot water ensuites, a kitchen, several common use bathrooms with showers, a washing machine and a caretaker that lives onsite.

The property is well positioned, just 2 minutes stroll from the centre of town to coffee shops, restaurants, internet shops and supermarket. The local Sports Complex and swimming pool are directly opposite. Tenom is a small friendly town with a mixture of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Philipino, Indonesian and the indigenous Murut; all living happily with each other. The State of Sabah is well known throughout Malaysia as being a friendly and tolerant society, and Tenom is a flagship for this philosophy. No doubt its idyllic setting, surrounded by jungle on the Padas River in the Crocker Ranges, helps with this peaceful and friendly outlook on life.

Tenom is about 2 1/2 hours drive from the capital of Kota Kinabalu and 20 minutes from Keningau; buses, mini-buses and long distance taxis run frequently. If you feel a little adventurous, catch the small-gauge train from Beaufort, the scenery is wonderful.

While you are in the state of Sabah, take the opportunity to see some of its attractions. Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, climb the 4,000 metre high Mount Kinabalu, experience the superb National Parks, go scuba diving/snorkelling on coral reefs or after a few days of hard training you might just want to relax on a beautiful island!

Huang Tai Chi Tenom, Sabah (Borneo) Malaysia

Grandmaster Huang Sheng Shyan (Huang Xing Xian) introduced his Tai Chi into Singapore in 1956 and started his first Tai Chi Association there in 1959, after he was sent from Taiwan by Grandmaster Cheng Man-Ching. He brought his Tai Chi to Malaysia in 1959 and it gradually spread. He set up his Malaysian Tai Chi association in 1973. The Association is now international with many branches throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China (Shenzhen). There are also many schools dedicated to Grandmaster Huang's art in Europe (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, UK), USA, Australia and New Zealand. You can find a Huang Tai Chi school anywhere in the world on the Contact or Links pages.

The Tenom Malaysia branch began in 1975. Land was purchased on the main road at the south edge of town and the building was completed in 1980, being the first owned by a Huang Tai Chi association. The building is set in landscaped grounds and contains several training areas, as well as office, kitchen and accommodation facilities. Workshops can also be organised for groups.

Tai Chi is an exercise that can be practised by anyone; no matter age, gender, creed, language, religion or belief. It is a great way to meet friendly people where you live, or anywhere in the world. All you need is a good teacher, and be thoughtful and consistent in your practise. Most of all, don't forget to have fun!

Huang Tai Chi Tenom Malaysia is a non-profit organisation and is dedicated to teaching the art of Taichi (Taiji) as taught by Grandmaster Huang. We also firmly believe in the adage 'One Tai Chi Family' so all are welcome to visit and practise with us. Click on to the Classes button to read a little about what we teach, download class instructions and to see some video clips.

We are located in the state of Sabah, East Malaysia which is the north-west part of the island of Borneo.
